BWA (Breakfast, Wine and Apples) Tour—Barry and Karen Rowsome—October 4, 2024
The Breakfast, Wine and Apples tour started with a little fog and chill in the air. We were a small group of 8 cars and 12 members.
We arrived at the Richmond Village Bakehouse for a family type traditional breakfast five minutes into our tour. We all sat at the same table and got to share some laughs and stories including Dave and Lynn giving us an awesome lesson on Richmond’s history. The breakfast was eggs, bacon, sausages, toast and home fries. There were a lot of desserts and fresh breads to be snatched up and boy did we load up on the goodies.
Back in our cars, we were off to the Jablani Vineyards. Most of us got to taste some nice wines and cheeses while basking in the sunlight since by now it was starting to warm up. After the wine and cheese tastings, a lot of wine was purchased.
After a quick stop in Kemptville for a bio-break and coffee or ice cream from the DQ, Tims and Starbucks, we drove down Hwy 43 to Mountain Orchards. Late in the season all the trees were picked and only windfalls were left for those of us that wanted to do our own picking. Not to be deterred we hopped on the wagon and set off to the picking area. The apples were easy to pick and it didn’t take long to fill our bags. After the wagon ride back, we purchased our harvest and many also bought some pre-picked apples to take home as well as sauces, pies, jams and other treats like honey and preserves. But we couldn’t leave without the mini sugar donuts cooked in apple cider. They smelled and tasted so good
Our apple day was a lot of fun as we climbed back into our Miata’s and headed to the Swan for a much-needed refreshment.
