Dark ominous clouds hung low in the sky, threatening cold rain, as drivers gathered at the starting points for the Upper Canada Playhouse Tour. Luckily the rain never materialized and we were able to enjoy a beautiful drive, and even bright sun after the play. The 34 cars were divided into 3 groups with Bob Gauthier, and sweep Martin Label, leading the first group from Orleans. Groups 2 and 3 left from Manotick where Ron Buck, with sweep Dave Pearen, led one group and David Waung, with Cindy McConnell as sweep, led the other.
All three groups were off to a good start as we wound our way to St Andrews West, enjoying some newly paved roads. David’s group left a little late and was further delayed enroute. When they arrived at Quinn’s Inn, a little hungry and some needing to access a washroom, they met the first two convoys in a similar situation. The restaurant was locked tight with no owner, no cook, and no staff in sight. Despite phone calls and door banging it was obvious that lunch at the Inn was not going to happen. Plan B quickly kicked into action and Debbie Meyers was able to secure lunch reservations, for all 64 of us, at McIntosh Inn in Morrisburg. We arrived there at 12:30 and had a great meal with efficient service.
The play at the Upper Canada Playhouse was very funny and very entertaining. The many belly laughs helped us digest our lunch. Wendy, who organized our booking, got us fantastic seats. After the show we went to Stone Crop Acres Winery where we sipped wine, enjoyed their famous pizzas, and had a relaxing ending to an eventful tour.
